COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISPENSER, GUMMED TAPE (TEAR –OFF TYPE)
The General Services Administration, Office Supplies and Paper Products Commodity Center, New York, NY. 10278. has authorized the use of this commercial item description in lieu of Federal Specification GG-D-450, which has been cancelled.
This description covers manually operated tear-off type gummed tape dispensers which use tape requiring water activation for adhesion and are suitable for general shipping room use.
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:
Tape Dispensers shall:
A. Have the capability to moisten and cut manually fed tape at any desired length.
B. Have a firmly attached serrated or corrugated metal blade suitable for manually cutting moistened gummed tape. Blade shall have a guard for operator protection during use.
C. Have a visible, auxiliary water supply.
D. Have either brush-type setup or a roller type (ceramic or porcelain) setup for moistening the gummed tape. Either setup shall be constructed in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall regulate the water evenly over the gummed surface. Amount of water shall meet guidelines established by the tape manufacturer or optimal sticking.
E. Accommodate a tape roll of 1 inch up to 3-1/32 inches wide, a inches maximum outer diameter, with an inner core diameter of ½ inch (+ 1/16,- 0).
F. Have feet or base that will not mar work surfaces (e.g. wood, glass or metal) and provide lateral stability.
