COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STAPLER, PAPER FASTENING, HEAVY DUTY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
1. SCOPE. This description covers heavy duty desk top staplers which are used for clinching paper.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:
A. Construction. The stapler shall be designed for desk top operation and shall accommodate a staple strip of “heavy-duty” preformed staples in accordance with CID A-A-2707. The stapler shall have a throat depth of not less than 8.3 cm (3.25”). The feeding mechanism shall operate automatically so as to feed an individual, new staple beneath the plunger after each stapling operation. The stapler shall have a “power level” or “strong arm” inherent to the design. The stapler shall be permanently marked with the name or trademark of the manufacturer. Unless otherwise specified, the color of the stapler shall be at the option of the supplier. Resilient pads shall be fitted to the base to protect desk tops. The stapler shall be able to consistently form a standard clinch, as specified below:
Standard Clinch. The standard clinch is represented by a staple driven home through two sheets of paper. Each leg shall be folded under so the tips of each leg face inward towards each other. Further, each tip shall be in a downward slope back toward reentering the paper.
