COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

MARKER, TUBE TYPE

(WHITE)

This Commercial Item Description is approved by the Commissioner, Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration for use by all federal agencies.

1. Scope. This Commercial Item Description covers tube type valve action felt tip markers with white ink used in freehand marking, writing, drawing and identification markings on various types of materials and surfaces.

2. Salient Characteristics.

2.1 The marker shall be constructed so as to prevent evaporation and leakage of the ink and shall be equipped with a protective cap.

2.2 The marker shall contain a minimum of 5.9 cm³ (.2 fl ozs) of permanent, quick drying, white, pigment type.

2.3 Metal or plastic used shall be of a material appropriate for the intended purpose and when used externally shall be suitable for coating. The writing tip shall be bullet shaped and either fine 1.2 mm + 0.12 mm or medium 1.8mm + 0.18mm.

2.4 The ink shall be fed to the tip by valve action and shall produce solid white lines, free of skips, on glossy, non-porous surface such as film, negatives, photographs, glass, plastics, painted surfaces, and metal.

2.5 Shelf life. The items shall be able to meet all the requirements of this specification from the time of delivery to a minimum of 18 months under normal storage conditions. Suppliers shall replace, without cost to the government, all markers failing to meet this requirement.

2.7 Workmanship. The marker shall be free from defects or imperfections of manufacture which may affect their durability, appearance or serviceablility or present & hazard to the user.
