A. SCOPE
This commercial item description covers steel filing boxes which are intended for filing and storing index cards.
B. CLASSIFICATION
The Filing Boxes shall have the dimensions listed in Table 1 and be suitable for storing 7.62 x 12.70 cm (3 x 5 IN.) 10 .16 x 15.24 cm (4 x 6 IN.) or 12.70 x 20.32 cm (5 x 8 IN.) cards, as applicable.
C. SALIENT CHARACTERISTCS
1. Boxes shall be made of steel not less than 0.05 cm (0.02 IN.) thick.
2. Boxrs shall consist of a lid and base. The lid shall open not less than 90 degrees and be fastened to the base using either one or two hinges located along the width dimension. If one hinge is used, the length shall be not less than 2/3 yhe width of the box. If two hinges are used, each hinge shall be not less than 1/3 the width of the box. When the box is closed, the lid shall rest squarely on a ledge and be flush with the vertical walls of the base.
