COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PENCILS, WAX CHINA & GLASS MARKING
SPIRAL-PAPER-FORM
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for use by all federal agencies.
1. Scope. This Commercial Item Description covers paper wrapped, wax base pencils for writing on glossy surface materials.
2. Classification:
Type : I- Thick Marking Core
II- Thin Marking Core
3. Salient characteristics:
3.1 The marking core for both type shall be a mixture of wax, extender, and pigments. Pencils shall not be less than 15.9 cm (6.25 inches) in length.
3.2 The marking core diameter for type I pencils shall be not less than .47 cm (.185 inches) and no more than .51 cm (.21 inches) with a minimum breaking strength of 2,100 grams.
3.3 The marking core diameter for type II pencils shall be not less than .4 cm (.157 inches) and no more than .42 cm (.165 inches) with a minimum breaking strength of 1,450 grams.
3.4 The marking cores for both types shall be in one piece and shall be of the color specified in the contract or order. Additionally, the cores shall be spiral and tightly wrapped with paper in accordance with normal commercial practices.
3.5 The pencils shall be furnished in the following colors: Red, White, Black, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, and Brown as specified in the order or contract.
