DATING STAMP

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all federal agencies.
1. Scope: This Commercial Item Description covers rubber hand stamps with a fixed legend and removable type for the dating of correspondence, documents, pamphlets, parcel post, and other printed material. The stamp is also used for recording the time received or dispatched.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 Each stamp shall have a commercially acceptable handle. The size of the handle shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice.
2.2 Each stamp shall have a metal base with a circular die in two parts; the outer part rotating around the fixed inner part. The inner part of the die shall have a fixed legend and a mortise for removable type.
2.3 Each stamp shall be accompanied by a set of removable type, tweezer for handling the type, and a box with compartments for storing the type.
2.4 The removable type shall consist of “day” type, using separate type for numerals “1” through “31”, “month” type, should be using the first three letters of each month as abbreviations; “year” type, using separate type for 9 consecutive four numeral year-dates, beginning with the year of the contract order, and separate type for the legends “AM” and “PM”.
