DISPENSER, GUMMED TAPE, ELECTRICALLY OPERATED
(SINGLE LENGTH)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu Federal Specification GG-D-1958
This commercial item description covers the requirements for an electrically operated tape dispenser that is suitable for dispersing reinforced of gummed paper tape that requires water activation for adhesion. The dispenser shall be equipped with printing mechanism if specified in the contract or order.
Salient characteristics:
Operation. The selection of a single tape length to be dispensed automatically activates the dispenser. It then measures, feeds, moistens, dispenses, and cuts the selected length.
Capacity. The dispenser shall accommodate, at a minimum, all-1/2 inch to 3 inch wide tape roll with an outer tape roll diameter of 7-1/2 inches. The core size may vary depending on the tape type.
Tape dispensing. The tape shall dispense at a speed of at least 2.5 feet/second. The dispenser shall be capable of dispensing, at a minimum, tape lengths between 6 and 36 inches. Over this range, there shall be at least 11 length selection settings at equally spaced intervals; additional settings within or outside this interval are permitted. The selection of a tape length setting shall automatically activate the dispenser and dispense the tape. The tape length dispensed shall be within 1/2 inch of length selected.
Printing mechanism. The printing mechanism shall be easily accessible for cleaning, maintenance, and replacement and shall be provided with ink that is fast-drying and non-smearing. The ink shall be provided in a replaceable bottle lot less than 4.0 fluid ounces capacity.
Instructions. Included with the dispenser shall be operating and servicing instructions.
Workmanship. The dispenser shall be sturdily constructed and free from any defects that may affect its serviceability or appearance. The dispenser shall have feet or base to protect work surfaces and provide lateral stability. Component parts shall be easily accessible; those contacting water shall be corrosion resistant. The dispenser shall meet the applicable requirements or UL 114.
The following products meet the minimum criteria of acceptability.
(a) Marsh Stencil Machine Company- Model 3D Dial Taper.
(b) Better Packages, Incorporated- Model Better Pack 555-L036.
(c) Ideal Stencil Machine Company- Model Idealogic/3.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The dispensers shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
Note. The purchaser shall specify in the contract or order whether a printing mechanism is required.
