COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHARPENER, PENCIL (AND C-CLAMP)
The General Sercices Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all federal agencies.
1. Scope: This Commercial Item Description covers two types of pencil sharpeners for heavy duty office use.
2. Classification.
Type: I- Draftsman
II- General Writing
3. Salient Characteristics:
3.1 Materials. Sharpeners shall be of a material suitable for the above type of sharpeners. Exposed metal surfaces shall be nickel plated or made corrosion resistant by suitable finish.
3.2 Construction.
3.2.1 Crank handles. Crank handles shall be made of suitable metal and shall be finished with a plastic knob. Both the handle and the knob shall turn freely.
3.2.2 Receptacle. Receptacle shall be metal, plastic or combination of metal and plastic and shall be removable but shall be firmly in place during use by means of a locking device.
3.2.3 Cutters. Each sharpeners shall be provided with a set of replaceable cutter. A set shall consist of two cutters which shall be readily removed without the use of special tools. The cutters shall be fabricated out of metal commonly used by the industry for the purpose intended and shall be heat treated for durability.
