COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
POINTER, WOOD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description by all federal agencies. This document replaces AA-P-560a which has been canceled.
1. Scope. This commercial item description covers lecture pointers which are hardwood, having a rubber tip at one end and a metal screw eye at the other hand.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 Construction: The pointer shall be made from a wooden rod turned, polished, tapered and corner rounded in accordance with good commercial practice. A screw eye shall be centered in the butt end of the undercut and tapered for a distance of not less than 12.7 mm (1/2 inch). A tapered rubber tip shall be securely fastened with good quality adhesive to the undercut portion of the rod.
2.2 Wood. The body of the pointer shall be of hardwood and shall be uniformly dried to a moisture content of not more than 12 percent. It shall be free from imperfections such as loose knots, chips, dents, pitch pockets, chipouts, splinters and splits. Mineral specks, burls, tight knots, not exceeding 1.588 mm (1/16”) in diameter and birds’ eye will be permitted.
2.3 Rubber. Rubber used for the tip shall be white din color and shall be natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or a mixture of natural rubber and synthetic rubber.
2.4 Dimensions. The overall length of the pointer
shall be a minimum of 91 cm (36 inches) exclusive of the screw eye. The
diameter of the rod shall be approximately 14.3 mm (9/16 inch) measured at 38.1
mm (1-1/2 inches) from the rubber tip and 38.1 mm (1-1/2 inches) from the screw
eye respectively. The diameter of the pointer shall be approximately 2.38 mm
(3/32 inch) less than the diameter measured at 30.48 cm (12 inches) from the
rubber tip. The tip shall be approximately 3.2 cm (1-1/4 inch) in length.
Alternatively, the rod may be untapered, in which case the diameter shall be
approximately 1/2 inch.
