4.3 Performance Tests: Unless otherwise specified,
the tests shall be conducted in an atmosphere of 23O ± 1.1OC
(73.5 ± 2OF) and at a relative humidity of 30% ± 4%. Tests involving
writing, shall be conducted on the following surfaces: melamine, porcelain,
glass, smooth metal or transparencies with the markers held at an angle
approximately 50O from the horizontal and with a writing pressure so
that the markings are clearly visible.
4.3.1 Drying Time. Write a five-letter word (on one of the
surfaces outlined in paragraph 4.3) utilizing and sample marker. Allow to dry
for 5 seconds. The markings shall not smear or smudge.
4.3.2 Erasion. Write a five-letter word (on one of the surfaces outlined
in paragraph 4.3) utilizing and sample marker. Allow to dry for 5 seconds.
Utilizing a dry cloth or tissue, wipe the markings from the surface and
examine. Markings shall be completely removed from the surface (without leaving
color residue).
4.3.3 Write Test. Write a five-letter word (on one of the surfaces
outlined in paragraph 4.3) utilizing and sample marker. Allow to dry for 5
seconds. The marker shall produce solid continuous lines free from breaks,
splits, separations, uneven concentrations, with bright, highly visible
markings. The markers reservoir will then be weighed empty and then with ink to
measure the fill (1.5 to 2 grams).
5. Packaging:
5.1 Preservation, packing, and marking shall be specified in the contract
or order.
