COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PENCIL, MECHANICAL FOR 3.05 MM LEADS
(CHINA MARKING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description by all federal agencies and will replace Federal Specification SS-P-186E Type I (c) Class I.
1. Scope: This commercial item description covers china marking mechanical pencils for general writing purposes.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 Mechanical pencils shall consist of a round plastic barrel which contains a wax lead that propels, repels, and expels leads as specified, and a metal pocket clip.
2.2 Mechanical pencils shall operate by twist action no propel, repel, and expel lead from the point, and shall operate smoothly and easily, without binding, bending, breaking or other malfunction.
2.3 The length and diameter of the wax lead shall conform to commercial item description A-A-2910 (Leads, China Marking Colored-Wax) paragraph 2.3 and the barrel colors shall be the same as the wax lead it contains.
2.4 The twist action mechanism and point shall hold the lead firmly, without breaking, so that the lead does not turn or slip into or out of the pencil. The pencil shall be capable of dispensing the specified lead size.
2.5 The pencils shall be furnished in the following colors; Black, Red, Yellow, Orange or as specified in paragraph 6.2.
