d. Drawer: The drawer shall be constructed from fiberboard, forming a bottom, two sides and two ends. The drawer front shall be metal covered or reinforced with hardboard completely encased by two or more thicknesses of fiberboard. The sides, front and back shall be reinforced with metal or hardboard or shall be two or more thicknesses of fiberboard. If single thickness, fiberboard shall be grade 275. If two or more thicknesses, the fiberboard shall be not less than grade 200.
E. The assembled drawer shall fit snugly into the case body and completely close the open end. Each drawer shall have a drawer pull fastened to the front. Each drawer shall have a label holder which will accommodate a card with the minimum dimensions of 7.62 cm x 3.81 cm (3” x 1-1/2”). Each drawer back shall have an opening placed near the top to permit gripping for lifting the drawer when loaded.
F. Metal devices shall be provided with each transfer case for interlocking when stacked and/or placed side by side.
G. Workmanship: All cases shall be free of any defects which may impair appearance or serviceability or may cause harm to the user.
3. RECOVERED MATERIALS
The fiberboard shall have a minimum of 40% post consumer recovered material in accordance with 40 CFR, part 250.
4. QUALITY ASSURANCE
Each lot of Cases, Filing, Transfer, Fiberboard shall be inspected for conformance to the requirements herein. Inspection shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105 using the sampling plans specified below.
A. Visual and dimensional characteristics – Inspection Level S-4 with an Acceptable Quality (AQL) of 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit shall be one Case, Filing, Transfer, Fiberboard.
B. Tests – Inspection Level S-2 with an AQL of 4.0 percent defective, for each test. The sample test unit shall be one Case, Filing, Transfer, Fiberboard. See below:
Weight Performance Test: Stack and interlock sample unit cases three high on a flat surface. Place an 45.72 cm (18”) by 71.12 cm (28”) sheet of 1.91 cm (3/4”) plywood lengthwise on the top of the stack. Then, place 136.08 kilograms (300 pounds) in weights, evenly distributed on the top of the plywood. The drawer of each of the bottom two cases shall operate easily without binding or jamming.
