COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CASE, FILING, TRANSFER, FIBERBOARD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial
item description, for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This description covers case, filing, transfer,
fiberboard, used for maintenance, transfer or storage of letter or legal size
documents.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
A. Size:
1. Letter: Height 26.35 cm (10-3/8”); Depth – 60.96 cm (24”); Width – 31.12 cm
(12-1/4”).
2. Legal: Height – 26/35 cm (10-3/8”); Depth – 60.96 cm (24”); Width – 38.74 cm
(15-1/4”).
B. Dimensional Tolerances: A plus or minus tolerance of 6.4 mm (1/4 inch),
shall be allowed on all dimensions.
C. Case Body: One piece of fiberboard certified by the manufacturer as having a
minimum dry bursting strength of 200 p.s.i., scored to form an open end box.
The body joint (manufacturer’s joint) shall be lapped or butted. Direction of
flutes shall run perpendicular to the body joint. The closed end shall have
four flaps or an interlocking closure. The case body shall be reinforced with
metal or metal suitable material. The open end of the box shall have a metal
edging on two or more sides.
