COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

CASE, FILING, TRANSFER, (WOOD OR FIBER)

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim Federal Specification LLL-C-00110.

This description covers transfer filing cases with detachable cover and follower (compressor), to be used for maintenance, transfer, or storage of index cards.

Sizes.

Size I - for 3 x 5-inch cards

Size II - for 4 x 6-inch cards

Size III - for 5 x 8-inch cards

Salient characteristics.

Standard Product. The transfer filing cases furnished under this description shall be the manufacturer8s standard commercial product.

Material.

Tray and cover. The basic material of which the tray and cover is fabricated shall be binder’s board*, solid wood, plywood, solid fiberboard*, paperboard*, or a suitable combination thereof. The side and bottom material of the tray shall not be less than 0.090 inch thick, and front and back material shall not be less than 0.180 inch thick. The material of the cover shall not be less than 0.090 inch thick.

Covering and lining. The exterior covering material of the sides of the tray and the entire cover shall be agate marblelized paper*.The bottom outside shall be covered with black or dark blue paper. The interior lining material shall be suitable blue or matching dark blue paper. The paper shall be of the composition, strength, and flexibility needed for these applications.

Follower assembly. The follower and rod or track shall be made of mid-rolled steel with a corrosion-resistant finish. The follower shall not be less than 0.025 inch in thickness and rod shall not be less than 0.125 inch diameter.

Label holder and pull. The label holder and pull shall be made of steel and shall be &ass plated and coated with lacquer or suitable plastic coating. The label holder shall accommodate labels 2 x 1 inches plus or minus 1/16 inch in both dimensions.

Tray inside dimensions. The tray dimensions shall be as specified in the following table. A plus tolerance of 1/4 inch or a minus tolerance of 1/8 inchwil1 be permitted in all dimensions.
