COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DESK TRAY, PLASTIC (LEGAL SIZE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description by all Federal agencies.
1. Scope. This Commercial Item Description covers plastic desk trays which are suitable for office use to sort, file, and organize letters and small documents. The tray may be used as a single unit or as a modular unit in a stacked assembly.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 The tray shall fully accommodate at least a 3.8 cm (1-1/2 inch) stack of commercial size computer printout paper 21.6 cm x 33.0 cm (8-1/2 x 13 inches) lying flat without folding, crimping, bending, wrinkling, or in any way damaging the paper. The trays shall be provided in black and beige as specified in the contract or order.
2.2 The stacking design shall incorporate any interlocking built in or added features. Simple friction fittings are not considered adequate. Any external connecting fixtures shall be included as necessary to stack the trays when a stacked assembly is required. No tools shall be required to the stack trays. When the trays are stacked, the outside bottom of the upper tray shall not be less than 5.4 cm (2-1/8 inches) from the inside of the bottom of the next lower tray. Stacked trays shall be located each directly over the other with no offset.
2.3 A stacked assembly of a minimum of five (5) trays shall be not exhibit evidence of deformity, including, but not limited to cracking, bending, warping, or visible stress marks, after testing as prescribed in Section 4.
2.4 Workmanship. The plastic desk trays shall be free of any defects which may affect appearance or impair serviceability, including, but not limited to, burrs, scratches, rough or sharp edges, blisters, crinkling, warping, and cracks. Minor discolorations, imbedded foreign matter and imperfections due to the use of Post Consumer Recovered Material (polystyrene) will be allowed.
