FOR 0.9 MM AND 1.1 SIZE, COLORED OR BLACK LEADS

This Commercial Item Description has been approved for promulgation by the General Services Administration, office Supplies & Paper Products Commodity Center, New York, NY 10278, and shall be used in preference to Federal Specification SS-P-186E, Type II Class 2.

This description covers mechanical pencils which have two writing points and accommodate 0.9 mm or 1.1 mm size, colored or black leads.

Classification:

The pencil shall be furnished in one of the following types and colors as specified in section VIII:

Types:
A. 0.9 mm
B. 1.1 mm

Colors:
1. Black
2. Red
3. Blue
4. Other (See section VIII)

I. Salient Characteristics:

A. Mechanical pencils shall consist of a barrel assembly, two metal writing points with a closed spiral type lead advancement mechanism and a metal pocket clip.

B. The mechanical pencil shall be designed to accept, propel, and expel leads at both ends of the pencil.
