MARKER, TUBE TYPE, FELT TIP
(PERMANENT INK)
This General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all federal agencies
1. Scope: This Commercial Item Description covers broad felt tip, permanent ink, tube type markers suitable for writing on porous and non-porous surfaces.
2. Salient characteristics:
2.1 The marker shall be a non-refillable tube type designed to operate by capillary action. The marker shall be constructed so as to provide good protection against evaporation and leakage. Removal of the cap for up to fifteen hours (recuperation of 30 minutes) shall not affect the instruments marking ability.
2.2 The ink shall be held within the marker by an absorbent material so that there is no liquid within the marker. The ink shall not smudge when allowed to dry for more than three seconds when marking on plain bond paper.
2.3 The marker shall be equipped with a tight-fitting plastic or metal protective cap and the overall length (with the cap in place) shall not be less than 125 mm (4.9 inches) and no more than 175 mm (6.9 inches). The diameter shall be not less than 10 mm (.4 inches) and not more than 20 mm (.8 inches).
2.4 The marker shall be furnished in the following colors; Black, Blue, Red, Green, Brown, Orange, Purple, and Yellow as specified in the contract or order. Metal or plastic used shall be of a material appropriate for the intended purpose and when used externally shall be suitable for coating when used as a decorative finish.
