COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FILE, HORIZONTAL, DESK
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification
A-A-F-1097.
This description covers files which are placed on desks, tables, file cabinets or mounted on walls. They are intended to be used for storing or sorting various types of paper.
Salient characateristics:
The file shall have six horizontal shelves equally spaced. Shelf arrangement and file dimensions are indicated in figure 1.
Shelves shall have sides and slant down at the back at an angle of 7 + 3o.
The file shall be made of not less than 24 gage steel.
All surfaces shall be covered with an enamel, color as soecified.
Using a 2H pencil, there shall be no evidence of exposed metal when the enamel coating is tested as specified in ASTM D 3363.
The file shall rest squarely on a flat surface and designed to prevent marring of the surface on which it rests.
The back of the file shall have two holes which allow it to be mounted to a wall.
All welds shall be a good quality and free from cracks, porosity or burnt through areas.
Each shelf shall be capable of supporting 5 pounds of paper without experiencing any damage.
The file shall be marked with the name or trademark of the manufacturer.
Workmanship. Files shall be free of burrs, sharp edges, irregular finish, and any other defects which may affect appearance of serviceability.
The issue of ASTM D 3363 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packing, labeling and marking. The preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
ASTM standards are available from the American Society for Testing Material, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Note. Purchasers shall indicate color criteria in the procurement document.
