COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STENCIL SET, MARKING: MANILA BOUND: CONSISTING
OF LETTERS, NUMBERS, AND TRAFFIC SIGNS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-S-52821.
Salient characteristics:
Description. The stencil set shall consist of 4 sets of 36 letters and numbers, 8 sheets of stencil paper, and 8 sets of traffic signs. Each set shall be separated from the next sheet by a separator sheet. Index tabs shall be provided on the separator sheets to indicate the following stencil. The entire set of stencil letters and numbers, stencil sheets, traffic sign stencils and separator sheets shall be bound in book form. The cover shall be of Manila paper. The overall size of the set shall be not less than 18.25 by 21 inches.
Material. Material shall be as specified herein. Materials not specified shall be selected by the contractor, and shall subject to all provisions of this commercial item description.
Stencil. Stencil and blank stencil sheets shall be on stencil-board. The stencil basic weight of the paper shall be between 35 and 41 pounds per 1000 sheets measuring 17 by 12 inches. Stencil sheets shall be 18.25 by 18.25 inches (exclusive of binding). Each sheet shall be perforated near the bound edge to permit easy removal of the sheet. Loose parts such as the center of the letter “A”, “B”, “D”, “O”, border lines, and other fragile parts shall be secured to the body of the stencil by ties in printing position. Not less than two ties, one at the top and one at the bottom, shall be used to hold the center portion of the letter, number, or traffic sign. The width each tie shall not exceed one third of the stroke width of the letter or the number.
