The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers case, filing, transfer, used for maintenance, transfer or storage of index cards, without damaging them, and to readily permit their removal and replacement.
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
A. TYPE:
Type I - Holds 7.62 X 12.70 centimeter <cm> (3 X 5) cards.
Type II - Holds 10.16 X 15.24 centimeter <cm> (4 X 6) cards.
Type 111 - Holds 12.70 X 20.32 centimeter <cm> (5 X 8) cards.

C. DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCES: A plus tolerance of 6.4 millimeters <mm> (1/4 inch), or a minus tolerance of 3.2 mm (1.8 inch) will be permitted in height, width and, depth.
D. Tray and cover shall be made of a base stock of binders board, heavy chipboard, hard-pressed fiberboard, or a suitable combination thereof. The thickness of the tray or cover including the cover paper shall be not less than 3.5 mm (0.138 inch) thick.
