COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MARKER, TUBE TYPE, FINE, FELT TIP
This Commercial Item Description is approved by the Commissioner, Federal
Supply Service, General Services Administration for use by all federal
agencies. This document replaces Federal Specification GG-M-1130 which has been
canceled.
1. Scope. This commercial item description covers
pen-sized tube type, fine tip markers for use in freehand marking, writing,
drawing, and identification marking on paper and porous surfaces.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 The marker shall be a non-refillable type, designed to operate by
capillary action. The marker shall be constructed to provide good protection
against evaporation and leakage. The ink shall be water based, free from
obnoxious odors, and shall be held within the marker by an absorbent material
so that there are no free liquid within the marker.
2.2 The marker shall be equipped with a tight-fitting plastic or metal
protective cap and the overall length (with the cap in place) shall not be less
than 130.0 mm (5.1 inches).
2.3 Metal, as may be used, shall be of a material and workmanship appropriate
for the intended purpose. Such metal where used externally. Shall be coated or
plated to protect its finish.
2.4 The markers shall be furnished in the following colors; Black, Blue, Red,
Green, Brown, Orange, Purple, and Yellow.
2.5 The marker barrel shall be made of plastic or metal or a combination of
these materials. The barrel diameter shall not be less than 7.9 mm (0.310
inches), excluding tapered and recessed ends, and not more than 12.7 (.5
inches) and shall be constructed so that the ink will emerge only through the
writing nib.
2.6 The writing nib may be of any material suitable for the intended purpose
and it shall be permanently secured in position by an appropriate design
feature. The marker shall write a minimum distance of 762m (2500 ft) when
tested as specified in section (5).
