COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MARKER, TUBE TYPE, FINE TIP
(FOR OVERHEAD PROJECTION TRANSPARENCIES)
This General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial
item description by all federal agencies.
1. Scope: This Commercial Item Description covers tube type, fine tip
markers for use in freehand marking, writing, and drawing on visual-aid
transparencies.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 The marker shall be a non-refillable type, designed to operate by capillary
action. The marker shall be constructed to provide good protection against
evaporation and leakage. The ink shall be water based, and held within the
marker by an absorbent material so that there is no free liquid within the
marker. Transparencies used in the testing of this marker shall be in
conformance with A-A-2978 or equivalent.
2.2 The marker shall be equipped with a tight-fitting plastic or metal
protective cap and the overall length (with the cap in place) shall be not less
than 130 mm (5.1 inches). The cap or body shall be colored, or have a colored
marking to indicate the color of ink content.
2.3 Metal or plastic used shall be of a material appropriate for the intended
purpose and when used externally shall be suitable for coating as a decorative
finish.
2.4 The markers shall be furnished in the following colors; Black, Blue, Red,
Green, Brown, Orange, Purple, and Yellow as specified in the contract or order.
2.5 The barrel shall be made of plastic or metal or a combination of these
materials. The barrel diameter shall not be less than 7.8 mm (0.310 inches),
excluding tapered and recessed ends, and not more than 12.7 mm (.5 inches) and
shall be constructed so that the ink will emerge only through the writing nib.
